• Scott Shepherd

  Scott specialises in sports massage and sports injuries, cryotherapy, remedial massage and taping and strapping.

  He graduated from Luton University in 2003 with a BSc in Sports Therapy, having already graduated with a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science at Napier University. During his studies, he was lucky enough to be involved with both the Great British Judo team and the Scottish Rugby League team.

  “I have gained great experience from the range of sports and athletes I have been fortunate to have worked with,” says Scott. “It is for this reason that I am delighted to bring my services to a thriving town like Forfar, as both Donald and I feel that Forfar has a fantastic opportunity to grow and develop as a sporting community, something we both would like to be part of,” he added.

  Scott also adds that he is keen to help not just the sporting community, but also the working community: “Having studied for five years, I fully understand the stresses and demands on the human body in any working environment. It is common nature for people pay more attention to their work than their own wellbeing so I feel strongly that this clinic is also a promotion of the health and wellbeing for the people of Angus as a whole.”

  Scott worked as a Sports Therapist for Dundee United Football Club for five seasons and continues this work now with Forfar Athletic Football Club, a position he has held for the last three years.

• Donald Ritchie

  "I deal with sports injuries, remedial massage, joint pain, back pain, neck pain, musculoskeletal injuries, arthritic problems, sports strapping, sports taping and cryotherapy. I am also qualified in the use of Ultrasound, Interferential and Tens treatments.

  I have gained diplomas in Anatomy and Physiology from Dundee College and Remedial Massage and Ultrasound from Northern College, Bury. I am qualified in First Aid through the SFA and have worked with Forfar Athletic FC since 1997 in the Physio department.

  I have played football all my life at various levels until I was forty years old and have experienced personal injury at the sharp end. Since I stopped playing, I have worked along side various team Physios at Forfar Athletic FC.

  In 1999, I was approached by the Scottish Schoolboys Football Association and became involved with the Under 16’s and Under 18’s teams. I have dealt with many players, some of whom went on to establish very successful careers in professional football – Darren Fletcher of Manchester United and Scotland to name a few.

  I am still employed during the day with Angus Council as a Buildings Officer inspecting dangerous and defective buildings, ensuring they are of no danger to the public.

  I opened this clinic in May 2005, treating Sports Injuries and providing Remedial Massage. I am delighted my new business partner Scott Shepherd is running the clinic during the day, whilst I am available for evening appointments."

• Julie Bell

  Julie specialises in aromatherapy, holistic massage, reflexology (ITEC Diplomas), Indian Head Massage (IPTI) and Reiki Level 2. She can also provide group relaxation or taster sessions for any interested group, employers or service users, so that people can find out more about what they can do to look after their own stress levels. For example, many employers now work towards Healthy Working Lives awards – workplace stress is a major issue.

  Julie began practicing Reiki five years ago and set up Spirit Level Therapies two years ago after ten years as a senior communications manager in the NHS. Julie also has a wide range of experience working in journalism, radio broadcasting and mental health in the voluntary sector. During her time in radio, she became particularly interested in mental health and well-being – she is passionate about helping people to manage their ever-increasing levels of stress and to find balance in their lives.

  Julie says: “I’ve been interested in stress management for a long time but my work in the NHS is the reason I became qualified in complementary healthcare: you will find that most, if not all, physical dis-ease stems from emotional or mental stress and I was appalled at how stressed my friends and colleagues were. As a therapist, I find it’s crucial to look at people holistically – that is, their whole being, not just the physical symptoms they are experiencing. Once balance is brought back into people’s lives, they can make more confident decisions about what they need to do to move on.

  “I believe we don’t pay nearly enough attention to our own physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health and well-being. It’s time that changed! I’m delighted to bring Spirit Level to Strathmore Therapies and to continue to work with people across my home community of Angus and, indeed, Tayside.”

  Julie is also chairman of Tayside Council on Alcohol (TCA), which provides information, counselling and support to children, young people and adults relating to alcohol misuse, and she works with palliative care patients at Strathmore Hospice in Forfar as a complementary therapist, both of which are voluntary positions.

• Laurie Tilley

  Laurie qualified in Reiki I & II 8 years ago and has since completed a Degree in Zoology, studied Indian Head Massage, Animal Healing, Emotional Freedom Technique I, II & Advanced, Colour Therapy, Dowsing and Site Clearing / Harmonisation.

  Laurie has chosen to focus on EFT but will combine healing, dowsing, Bach remedies, crystals, colour and site harmonisation when required to ensure an overall healing which will have long lasting effects.

  Laurie turned to complementary therapies to find answers to and heal her own physical symptoms over 10 years ago and since then has become passionate in helping others in this way.

  Laurie says: "I feel that medicine and science have their place but do not always give us all of the answers, for this reason I feel they should go hand in hand with complementary therapies so that the client can receive the best possible healing.

  As a practitioner I want to help clients to help themselves, to understand their symptoms whether it be on a physical, emotional or mental level and to release them, regaining control over their well-being.

  I am gentle in nature, I have always been a listener and an empath, I am happy that I have found a career that I am passionate about that allows me to help others. I hope that I can be of help to you."

• Reiki

  This is a powerful yet gentle treatment which uses the universal life force energy that flows through us all to provide a completely natural, non-invasive healing. Reiki uses the chakra system of the body to release energy blockages – it works on all levels and is particularly good at helping you to release old emotional traumas which impact on you in physical ways.   Using pure essential oils, aromatherapy harnesses the life essence of plants and their healing properties to tailor treatments as individual as you are. • Hypnotherapy

  Is a process whereby you become deeply or lightly relaxed, guided by words, phrases, suggestions and imagination. You will feel very relaxed, just a wonderful feeling of comfort. Through simple relaxation techniques you can easily attain this state at which time it becomes easy for the therapist to address the issue that you would like to change.

  How does it work? Your subconscious mind is the large storehouse of your brain, holding all your memories and past experiences. Hypnotherapy bypasses the “busy, conscious” mind and the therapist uses it to offer suggestions which can help change your belief patterns. Hypnotherapy may even succeed where other more conventional methods of treatment have not produced the desired result. When carried out by a trained and qualified hypnotherapist, the benefits can be long lasting and often permanent. It is natural and safe, with no harmful side effects.

• Emotional Freedom Technique

  The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a process that can help just about anyone to achieve genuine freedom from the pain, allergies and emotional issues that have created problems in their lives.

  It is a process whereby you stimulate the major energy meridian points on your body by lightly tapping on them or gently massaging them, similar to acupuncture except the needles are not necessary. During the tapping process, positive statements are repeated to address the particular issue.

  EFT is a simple non-invasive therapy that can be used for the rapid and effective treatment for many health and behavioural issues.
